IRIS Giclee Limited-Edition Prints

REPRODUCTIONS AND GICLEE
I have had five of my favorite works commercially reproduced as IRIS Giclée® “prints.” Each one is a limited edition of 200 [+10 artist’s proofs], with the exception of Hard Times II which has a limited edition of 100.  All are made with the Iris Giclee process and printed on Somerset Velvet 100% rag paper.

Read about IRIS Giclée® Reproductions.

I also print some reproductions of my work 8×10 or smaller using archival inks on rag paper. Contact me by email if interested.

REPRODUCTIONS INFORMATION
IRIS reproductions are made on printers manufactured by IRIS Graphics of Bedford, Massachusetts, a leading supplier of the ink-jet printers used in the graphic arts industry.  IRIS “prints” are a fine arts reproduction medium that have more recently been called “Giclée prints” which is a French word meaning “to spray forcefully”.  Any ink jet printer might be used to make a “Giclée print” but a print that has been made on an IRIS printer is trade marked with the name IRIS Giclée®. Properly made IRIS reproductions are beautiful and superior to other ink jet prints in both image permanence and tonal quality.

Old Town Editions creates reproductions from my artwork by first using a high-resolution digital camera to make a record of the original, creating as faithful a reproduction of the original as possible.  The second step is the actual printing of the image on the IRIS printer.  A high quality fine arts paper is wrapped around a drum on the printer.  All are printed on Somerset Velvet 100% rag paper. The computer controlled printer sprays very tiny droplets of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks at the paper with amazing precision.  Four million drops per second are applied from the color streams of high-pressure inks. Each droplet of ink is about the size of a red blood cell. Multiple droplets are overlaid to create a beautiful continuous tone reproduction.  They offer exquisite image quality.

Matting Recommendations for your Giclée® Print:

All ordered “prints” are shipped without mats or frames unless special arrangements are made.  However, it is recommended that only acid free mats be used in framing these Giclée® prints as is standard practice with any piece of fine art created on archival paper.  Do not place in a frame without a mat since that will result in the glass or Plexiglas coming into contact with the print itself.
