"Cafe Van Gogh"
30"H X 30"W
oil on canvas
This painting is based upon a photo I took when visiting
Arles in Southern France, the small town where
Vincent Van Gogh lived from 1888 until 1890. He did
many of his most famous paintings there.
"A Starry Night", "The Bedroom", "The Yellow House"
and "Terrace Cafe on the Place du Forum At Night" were all created in Arles.
This is the same canopied restaurant that was the subject of his "Terrace Cafe" painting.
I included a figure representng Vincent wearing a straw hat and a figure representing
Agostina Segatori of "Agostina Segatori Sitting in the Cafe du Tambourin". She modeled
for Vincent and gave him his first show of his work in her Cafe Tambourin in Paris in 1887.
